FMP: Weekly Progress- Week 4

Week 4 (8th May) Unit 13/14- 3.1/4.1/5.1/7.1/7.2

This week, I have used the feedback and one-to-one with my tutor to apply them to my animation such as the transitions to the next chapter and the score bar which showed the chapter’s date set in. Although this did mean going back through my previous frames and therefore eating into my production time, it was all worth it as it fills up leftover space and makes the target audience feel like they’re playing the game/animation themselves.

This week, I also managed to complete the voice-overs for chapter 2 which I then applied to my animation. However, animating the star of chapter 2 first and then doing the voice-overs second meant more time being spent on adjusting the current edits in my production time but this was a hint that in future I should do the voice overs first so that I can crack straight on with animating. Aside from these major problems, I started to gather ideas on how to apply last week’s feedback into my piece with the use of my artistic drawing skills, Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro to fill in my drawings and adjust each individual frame to the duration I required.

After I had completed all of chapter 1 I decided to ask my tutors and fellow class members my work and after watching it, they seemed to be really impressed with it especially how I implemented Sonic’s smug personality and facial expressions into my representation hedgehog. One suggestion I did receive from my tutor was that I could maybe gather some feedback from others around the media department to see if they could have any other suggestions for improvement or even praise for it.

According to my self-devised production schedule, I am due to complete chapter 2 by the end of next week which should not be a problem since I have already made a firm start on chapter 2 and can work on it over the weekend at home as well as in college.

Here is my animation so far:

  1. Celia feedback:
Further to our discussion in class, explore different illustrative approaches to reflect the Sonic animation. Your mountains currently have a black outline which is uncharacteristic and gives a ‘clipart style’ to the illustration. Try removing this outline and use flat richer colours to suggest mountains in the distance. Whilst your mountain tops are created to suggest pixilation, they are too basic and need more tone and detail. The grass strip again is too basic and geometric which doesn’t give that ‘Sonic feel’. Introduce some shadows too and this will enrich your imagery.
